About the Project
The Boy Scouts Camp Shands located on 600 plus acres in Melrose, FL has received a major upgrade. The 60-year old camp has been upgraded throughout its history, but nothing to the scale of this project. 10 new 1050 SF screened pavilion buildings have been added to the campsites and a 2500 sf staff housing building featuring 6 suites with facilities, sleeping up to 30. For the main aquatic center, an 8 lane Olympic sized pool was constructed, featuring 2 large amenity style twisting slides, a shallow area for instruction, and an ADA lift. Around the pool, 5 troop shelters were built. The main aquatic center building includes 8 bathrooms, an office, equipment room, and a 1500 sf screened lanai. These new upgrades and features will be a big draw regionally for the Boy Scouts and other groups that travel to Camp Shands. Scherer is proud to partner with the Boy Scouts on this project.
