Legacy Park Phase 2 Completion Set to Expand Recreation for Alachua County
The Legacy Park Multipurpose Center hosted a ribbon-cutting to commemorate the completion of its second phase of construction on October 29th. The monumental project was funded by the Wild Spaces Public Places sales tax and help from private donors. It is located next to the Hal Brady Recreation Complex, where major regional sporting competitions are held.
We completed the first phase of the complex in June 2017. It features a 40,000-square-foot pre-engineered metal facility, complete with four basketball/volleyball courts, and a myriad of rooms to host community events. Phase 2 adds two multi-sport fields, a long-anticipated outdoor amphitheater, and a concession stand.
The addition of the fields is expected to attract even more regional sporting events to the area, while the amphitheater will offer the opportunity to showcase cultural arts concerts. The architecture firm contracted for this phase was Paul Stresing & Associates, based in the city of Alachua.
Another Opportunity to Help
Although we also constructed Phase 1 of Legacy Park, since the project is publicly funded, we were required to bid on the second phase separately. The opportunity to work on Phase 2 was crucial to us, because it meant that we could keep the sitework and concrete in-house instead of having to subcontract it to others less familiar with the project. This allowed us to assure that the quality and cost controls remained up to the highest standards throughout the entire build.
